New Riff – Sherry Finish Malted Rye Kentucky Whiskey (75cl)

New Riff Sherry Finish is a Kentucky whiskey made from 100% malted rye and finished in sherry casks. The distillery thinks of it as a malt whiskey first and a rye second, and the sherry finish follows from that malty character, as it often does with malt whiskeys elsewhere. The sherry influence is forward and deeply pitched, balanced by piquant grain that comes through in the finish. On the nose there are dark fruits, buttery sherry oak, walnut skin and lifted rye spice with a touch of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied and broad, with a savoury, dry entry, then sappy sherry and malty grain. Water brings out more of the sherry, while less keeps the rye to the fore.
