Niepoort Colheita Tawny Port 2008

This is a sweet Colheita tawny port from Niepoort, made in the Douro in Portugal from the 2008 harvest. It spent several years ageing in wooden casks and has a deep amber-red colour with golden reflections. The nose is rich, with dried fruit such as walnut and dried apricot, along with honey, vanilla and a touch of sweet spice from the long time in wood. The palate is balanced, with an elegant sweetness and fresh acidity framing intense, persistent flavours. It is served at 12 to 14 degrees, with mature cheeses or chocolate desserts.
