Nikka Discovery Series Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is a 2022 release from Nikka's Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai, Japan. It is unpeated, has no age statement and is bottled at 47% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The whisky was fermented with aromatic yeasts from Nikka's culture collection, chosen to draw out delicate fruity aromas. Miyagikyo opened in 1969 as Nikka's second distillery.
It is typically described as having lavender, malted barley, peach, pear, vanilla and lemon meringue on the nose. The palate offers herbaceous barley, rich brioche, white peaches and acacia honey, and the long, silky finish brings herbal tea, sage, chamomile and fresh ginger.
