A Japanese single malt from Nikka's Miyagikyo Distillery in Miyagi Prefecture, bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle. Masataka Taketsuru built the distillery in 1969 as his second site, in a valley where the Nikkawa and Hirose rivers meet.
It is made entirely from malted barley, a blend of lightly peated and unpeated, and distilled in steam-heated copper pot stills.
The nose offers green apple, ripe pear, honeyed malt and a faint wisp of peat smoke. The palate is soft and honeyed, with orchard fruit, a touch of orange, clove and black pepper. The finish is medium, with light smoky oak and clean, slightly sweet malt.
