Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt is a blended malt in a 70cl bottle, named after Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of the company. It is made from malt whiskies from the Japanese distilleries of Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The whiskies in the blend were aged for at least 10 years in several types of oak cask, including ex-sherry. The nose shows sherry, grape and green apple with a hint of black pepper. The palate is elegant and balanced, with white chocolate and tobacco leaf, leading to a lightly peaty finish with coffee.
