Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt is a Japanese blended malt in a 750ml bottle, bottled at 43% with no age statement. It is a vatting of malts from two distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, and contains no grain whisky. Yoichi brings a robust, peated character, while Miyagikyo adds softer, fruit-forward malts. The name honours Masataka Taketsuru, who studied whisky-making in Scotland in the 1920s and founded Nikka in 1934. The nose is typically described as sherried plums and raisins with green apple and light smoke. On the palate come dried fruit, coffee and milk chocolate, and the finish is smooth and long, with vanilla and oak.
