Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old is a single malt from Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido, Japan, matured in bourbon barrels and bottled at 45% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
It was discontinued in 2015 and re-released in 2022, after Yoichi's buildings were named Important Cultural Properties of Japan. It is an annual release of roughly 9,000 bottles, still distilled in coal-fired pot stills.
The nose offers gentle peat smoke, orchard fruit, toasted nuts, maritime salt and soft vanilla. Stone fruit, oak spice, subtle smoke, honey and balanced malt sweetness layer on the palate, and the long, warming finish stays smoky, with oak, spice and coastal minerality.
