Nikka Yoichi Single Malt comes from the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, the first distillery Nikka built, in 1934. Founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the site for its similarity to the conditions in Scotland, where he learned whisky making. It is bottled at 45% in a 750ml bottle.
The whisky is bold and strong, with peaty notes and smokiness from traditional direct coal-fired distillation, and a briny hint from the sea breeze during maturation.
