This is Vega 1996, a 22 year old blend from the independent bottler North Star Spirits, released in 2019 as Legendary Blend Limited Edition Number 6. It is bottled at 43.9% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky has spent time in both American and European oak, and the oak adds depth to a dark vanilla mixed with tobacco, berries and cherries.
The nose is semi-sweet, with raisins, prunes, nuts, caramel, cardamom, cloves, sweet oranges, a hint of mint and light herbal notes. The palate is rather dry and peppery, with plum jam, caramelised orange zest and herbs. The finish is medium-long, dry and nutty, with leathery, woody notes.
