Oban 10 Year Old Special Release 2022, called The Celestial Blaze, is a Highland single malt bottled at natural cask strength of 57.1% ABV, in a 750ml bottle. It comes from Diageo's 2022 Special Releases, titled Elusive Expressions, and was selected by master blender Dr Craig Wilson.
The whisky was matured first in refill and new American oak, then double-matured in Amontillado-seasoned sherry casks. Oban was founded on the west coast in 1794.
Tasting notes describe a gentle maritime nose of salt crystal, seaweed and sea air, with faint smoke and lemon. The palate is soft and creamy, with sweet violet and spiced plum, and the finish is long and peppery with a hint of chili.
