Octomore 12.2 is a super-heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled in 2021 at 57.3% ABV in a 70cl bottle. About 15,000 bottles were produced. It is five years old and made from 100% Scottish Concerto barley peated to 129.7 PPM.
It was matured in first- and second-fill ex-bourbon barrels, then finished for 18 months in first-fill Sauternes wine casks, following the '.2' approach of wine cask finishes.
The nose is smouldering wood smoke, earthy peat and maritime brine with honey, orange peel and grilled stone fruits. The palate shows apricot jam, golden syrup, vanilla ice cream, smoked meats and white pepper. The finish is very long and warm, with cold charcoal ash, salted caramel and lemon.
