Octomore 13.1 Scottish Barley 5 Year Old (59.2%)

Octomore 13.1 is a five-year-old single malt from Bruichladdich on Islay, the thirteenth release in the heavily peated Octomore series. It is made from 100% Scottish Concerto barley, harvested in 2015 and distilled in 2016, and bottled at 59.2% vol with a phenol level of 137.3 PPM. It matured entirely on Islay in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks, then after almost five years was moved into newer first-fill ex-Bourbon casks to add further complexity. The nose is smoky and complex, with nuts, pickled apricots, ripe pears and oily vanilla and malt. The palate offers strong but elegant peat smoke, vanilla and coconut, smoked apricot jam, Turkish delight, dark berries, aniseed and heather. The finish fades from sweetness to glowing heather, mossy peat and lemon, with sea salt and floral notes.
