Octomore 13.3 is the thirteenth release in Bruichladdich's heavily peated Octomore series, bottled at cask strength of 61.1% and measuring 129.3 PPM. It is a 5 year old made from 100% Concerto barley grown on Octomore Farm, harvested in 2015 and distilled in 2016, and matured entirely on Islay.
The spirit was aged in first-fill ex-American oak and second-fill European oak that held Rivesaltes and Ribera del Duero wines.
The notes describe a surprisingly sweet nose with gentle peat, and a sweet palate of honey, demerara sugar and citrus. The finish is long, maritime and peaty, with honey, candied pears and marzipan.
Tasting Notes
Surprisingly sweet at first, with unexpectedly gentle peat smoke, floral and fresh fruity notes, then marzipan and ginger; more peat with a drop of water
Velvety and sweet, with honey, demerara sugar and citrus, restrained peat at first, then citrus zest, mineral maritime notes, marzipan biscuits, coconut, warm ash and tarred ship planks
Long and lightly sweet, maritime and peaty, with honey, candied pears, marzipan and a sun-warmed sandy beach
