Octomore 16.1 Scottish Barley (59.3%)

Octomore 16.1 is the first release in the sixteenth edition of Bruichladdich's heavily peated Octomore series from Islay. This 5 year old was made from 100% Scottish Concerto barley, peated to 101.4 ppm, and matured entirely on Islay in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and re-charred ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at a cask strength of 59.3% abv, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring. The nose is complex and smoky, with salted caramel and earthy, mineral notes. The palate has strong but elegant peat smoke, smoked apricot jam, melon and coconut. In the finish the sweetness fades to glowing peat fire, with sea salt and earthy notes that linger.
