Octomore 17.2 is a peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, made from 81ppm-peated Concerto barley grown on the Scottish mainland. It was matured for a total of five years, starting in French oak casks that had previously held Californian red wine, then bourbon, then an earlier Octomore whisky.
It was then finished in first-fill Port barriques, a cask combination Bruichladdich had not used before for this brand. It is bottled at 59.5% in a 70cl bottle, and the character is a powerful mix of citrus, berry, black pepper and woodsmoke.
