Old Bardstown is a Kentucky straight sour mash bourbon made by Willett Distillery in Bardstown, bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It won a Silver Medal at the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The mashbill is 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% malted barley, roughly three times the usual share of malted barley.
The nose shows caramel and vanilla, then orange zest and subtle floral notes over oak. The palate is gently sweet with caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, a trace of baking chocolate and warming rye spice, with a creamy feel. The finish is medium to long, with dry oak spice and a faint pepper warmth.
