Old Carter #72 is a 13-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon from a single barrel, bottled at barrel strength, 59% ABV (118 proof), in Frankfort, Kentucky. The barrel gave 150 bottles, with the yield written on the label by hand.
The bourbon is sourced rather than distilled by Old Carter. Mark and Sherri Carter buy mature barrels from Kentucky producers, taste through them and bottle the ones they choose at full strength.
The nose is rich caramel, brown sugar, vanilla bean and toasted oak, with dark cherry, baking spice, tobacco and leather. The palate is full-bodied, with dark fruit and cinnamon, and the finish is long and warming.
