This is Batch 3 of Old Carter, a 12-year-old straight American whiskey from Mark and Sherri Carter. It is bottled at barrel strength, 138.1 proof or 69.05% ABV, uncut and unfiltered, in a 750ml bottle.
Only 2,487 bottles were filled from this small batch. The mouthfeel is thick and oily, and a few drops of water will open it up if neat feels too forceful.
The nose offers caramel, burnt sugar, vanilla, dark cherry, toasted oak, leather, pipe tobacco and rye spice, with orange sherbet and mint as it opens. The palate is crème brûlée, cinnamon sugar, dark fruit, candied bacon, clove and black pepper. The finish is long and warming, with oak, leather and sweet rye spice.
