Old Commonwealth Red Top Rye is a straight rye whiskey from Kentucky, bottled at 52.5% ABV (105 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is matured in charred American oak barrels and bottled with little dilution from barrel strength.
On the nose, peppery rye grain comes first, with toasted oak, baking spice and dried herbs, and a honeyed note beneath. The palate opens with cracked black pepper and cinnamon over a firm rye grain base, then caramel and charred oak add sweetness. The finish is long and drying, with peppercorn, oak tannin and a faint touch of mint.
