Old Crow is a Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a large 1.75 litre bottle. It is made at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont from a mash of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley.
The bourbon is aged for a minimum of three years in new charred white oak barrels. The name comes from Dr James C. Crow, who is widely credited with refining the sour mash process in Kentucky in the 1830s.
The nose is faintly vanilla, with a chalky sweetness and light apple juice. The palate brings corn sweetness, caramel, vanilla and a touch of leather, and the finish is fairly short, drying quickly with muted vanilla.
