Old Elk Master's Blend Wheat N' Rye is a blend of 7-year-old straight wheat whiskey and 6-year-old straight rye whiskey, bottled at 54.2% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It belongs to Old Elk's Master's Blend Series, put together by Master Distiller Greg Metze.
Metze distilled the wheat whiskey at MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and the blend was bottled at Old Elk in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was brought down to strength with the brand's Slow Cut method, in which water is added over several weeks.
Tasting notes mention honeyed granola, orange peel and black pepper on the nose, butterscotch and vanilla bean with persistent rye spice on the palate, and a long, warming finish.
