Old Elk Straight Wheat Whiskey comes from the Old Elk distillery in Fort Collins, Colorado, where Greg Metze, formerly of LDI and MGP, is Master Distiller. The whiskey is sourced from an undisclosed producer and has a mash bill of 95% wheat and 5% malted barley. It is bottled at 50% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The nose offers tropical fruit, vanilla cream and roasted pecans, and the palate runs to meringue, vanilla custard, pineapple and graham cracker. On the finish the vanilla sweetness carries on, with a char note like slightly burnt whipped cream.
