Old Fitzgerald is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle. It is now produced by Heaven Hill, and its recipe goes back to John E. Fitzgerald and was later championed by Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle Sr. at Stitzel-Weller.
The mashbill is 68% corn, 20% wheat and 12% malted barley, with wheat rather than rye as the secondary grain. The bourbon is matured in new charred American oak barrels and has no age statement.
The nose offers vanilla bean, light caramel and honey. The palate is creamy, with corn sweetness, toffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, hazelnut and apple, and the finish is clean and gentle, with vanilla and light oak.
