Old Forester 1870 Original Batch is a small-batch Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 45% in a 750ml bottle. It is named for the year George Garvin Brown founded the brand, and it revives his early practice of batching barrels. Today that means combining barrels from three warehouses, each filled on a different day of production, with a different entry proof and age. The nose brings orange peel, grapefruit, honeysuckle and clove over caramel and dried dark fruit. Baking spices lead the palate, followed by shortbread, cocoa and maple. The finish is medium in length, with maple, toasted oak and dried dark fruit.
