Old Forester 86 Proof is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 43% ABV in a large 1.75 litre bottle. It is made at the Brown-Forman distillery in Shively, Louisville.
George Garvin Brown created Old Forester in 1870 and sold it only in sealed glass bottles. The mashbill is 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley, and every barrel has a deep number 4 char on air-seasoned American oak.
The nose combines spearmint, toffee, vanilla, hazelnut and floral sweetness, with tobacco leaf and cedar beneath. Honey, vanilla and caramel run through the palate, with orange peel, red berries, cinnamon and rye spice. The finish is medium and dry, with oak, baking spice and vanilla.
