Old Forester – Rye 100 Proof (50%)

Old Forester Rye is a Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky bottled at 100 proof (50% vol). The mash bill is 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn, a recipe the brand acquired in 1940. The high proportion of barley allows a fully natural fermentation without artificial enzymes, and the malt adds a floral character that sits alongside the brisk spice of the rye. The nose is brown sugar and magnolia blossom with soft sassafras and candied lemon. On the palate come black pepper, cinnamon stick, dried dill and baked apple. The dry finish brings allspice, peppercorn, pine, anise and lemon zest.
