Old Forester Rye 100 Proof is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Louisville, in a 75cl bottle at 50% ABV. It is matured in new charred oak barrels. The mashbill is 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn. That share of malted barley is high for a rye, and it allows natural fermentation without added enzymes. Old Forester dates from 1870, when George Garvin Brown began selling bourbon in sealed glass bottles. The nose offers brown sugar, magnolia blossom, sassafras and candied lemon. Black pepper and cinnamon lead the palate, with baked apple and clove. The finish is dry and long, with allspice, peppercorn and lemon zest.
