Old Forester Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whisky bottled at 50% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is distilled by Old Forester in Louisville from a historic recipe acquired in 1940: 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn, fermented with the house's own yeast strain. It was launched in 2019 as the house's first Kentucky straight rye.
The nose has brown sugar and molasses with a hint of malt, root beer and dark fruit. The palate brings burnt sugar, blood orange, black pepper, sweet liquorice and subtle oak. The finish is long, with black pepper and citrus oils rounded by toasted malt.
