Old Forester Single Barrel Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Louisville, drawn from individual barrels and bottled unfiltered at barrel strength in a 750ml bottle. The strength runs from about 64 to 65.5% ABV, depending on the barrel.
It is the first barrel-proof rye in Old Forester's history. The mashbill is 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn.
The nose offers brown sugar, magnolia blossom, sassafras and candied lemon, with caramel and hazelnut emerging later. On the palate, black pepper and cinnamon give way to vanilla, lemon custard and baked apple. The finish is long and dry, with allspice, pine, anise and lemon zest.
