Old Overholt Bonded is a straight rye whiskey bottled in bond at 50% ABV, in a 750ml bottle. It is aged for four years in new charred oak barrels and is not chill filtered. The brand goes back to Abraham Overholt, who distilled rye in West Overton, Pennsylvania, in 1810, and it is now made at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky.
The nose has pumpernickel, vanilla, brown sugar and sour cherry, with apple, toasted grain and mint. The palate brings allspice, nutmeg, clove and rye spice, then dry oak, cacao and black pepper, in an oily texture. The finish is moderate to long, with rye spice, oak and a cooling spearmint note.
