Old Pepper Finest Kentucky Oak is a straight bourbon from the James E. Pepper Distillery in Lexington, Kentucky, in a 750ml bottle. It is bottled straight from the barrel at barrel proof, uncut and unfiltered, and is a limited-release line extension of the Old Pepper range.
After maturing, it is given a second finish in heavily toasted new barrels made from Kentucky oak, whose staves are air-seasoned for 18 to 24 months rather than the usual six.
The tasting notes describe toasted oak, walnuts, caramel and dark chocolate on the nose, oak with dried dark fruit and marzipan on the palate, and a medium-long finish of vanilla, citrus peel and nutmeg.
