Old Pulteney – 16 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

This is a 16 year old Highland single malt from Old Pulteney, made in the coastal town of Wick. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle and is non-chill filtered. The whisky is matured in American ex-bourbon casks and then finished in Spanish Oloroso sherry butts. The bourbon wood contributes vanilla and cream, while the sherry adds fruit, spice and depth. The nose has dried figs, toffee, cinnamon-dusted almonds, sea breeze, lemon zest and soft oak. On the palate are sultanas, dark chocolate, caramel, salted nuts and gentle spice. The finish is long and warming, with sherried fruit, oak spice and a faint briny note.
