Old Pulteney – 50 Year Old 200th Anniversary Release (40.8%)

Old Pulteney 50 Year Old was created for the 200th anniversary of Pulteney Distillery, founded in Wick in 1826. It is the oldest whisky Old Pulteney has released. Four hogsheads, each matured for five decades, were chosen by Master of Whisky Creation Sarah Burgess. The whisky matured mainly in American oak, with a smaller share of European oak. Only 200 bottles were filled, one for each year since the distillery's founding, each in a crystal decanter shaped after the distillery's flat-topped still. The nose offers chocolate, sweet dried fruit, spiced cedar and vanilla. Candied orange peel and citrus oil lead the palate, and the long finish moves to tropical fruit with a maritime edge.
