Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue is a 16 year old Kentucky straight bourbon in a 75cl bottle, made by blending Stitzel-Weller and Bernheim distillate, both aged 16 years.
Stitzel-Weller was founded by Pappy Van Winkle and operated from 1935 to 1992, and is known for wheated bourbons. The Bernheim component is more recent distillate, and the two together give the blend its wheated character.
The name refers to the copper pot still, whose copper surfaces interact with the spirit during distillation to remove sulphur compounds and develop character.
