Scarlet Shade is a 14 year old straight rye whiskey, the first rye released under Diageo's Orphan Barrel label, in May 2023. It was distilled in Indiana, aged at the Stitzel-Weller distillery in Kentucky and bottled in Tullahoma, Tennessee, at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle. Samantha Johnson was the master blender.
The nose is sweet vanilla buttercream and lightly toasted oak, with banana bread and a hint of berries. Baking spices and rye toast sit alongside orchard fruits on the palate. The finish begins with orange marmalade and light warmth, fading into lingering dark chocolate.
