This is the 2023 release of Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old, a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon distilled by Buffalo Trace. It was aged for 15 years and bottled at 53.5% ABV (107 proof) in a 75cl bottle.
The wheated recipe is the defining feature of the style, with wheat in place of rye in the mash.
The nose is dried apricot, honey and warm spice. On the palate there is toffee, vanilla and oak tannin, and the finish is long and warming, with spice and sweet oak lingering.
