Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year Old is a wheated bourbon aged for 20 years, bottled at 45.8% in a 75cl bottle. It is the Family Reserve expression, produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle Sr. began his career in 1893 as a travelling salesman for W. L. Weller & Sons. He later acquired the company with Alex Farnsley and combined it with the distilling operations of A. Ph. Stitzel, which led to the creation of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in 1935.
The Buffalo Trace site was once owned by George T. Stagg. Julian Van Winkle III and his son Preston now represent the third and fourth generations of the family.
