This is a 20 year old wheated bourbon from the Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve range, bottled at 90.4 proof (45.2%). The mash bill is corn, wheat and malted barley, and the whisky has a rich amber colour.
The nose offers oiled leather, cigar box and dark fruit. On the palate it is silky, with sherry-like sweetness, dried orange peel, vanilla bean and roasted coffee, set against earthy tobacco and mineral notes. The long finish carries spice, smoke and dried fig.
