Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve is a 23 year old bourbon. The barrels were chosen from the heart of the warehouse and given an extra three years of ageing.
It is a deep amber red in the glass, and is best drunk neat, as ice or water would dilute it.
The palate shows caramel, ripe apples, cherries, oak and tobacco, with a hint of chocolate. It starts with plenty of wood and leads to a long, pleasant finish of sweet caramel.
