La Maison Bleue is a red Hermitage from Paul Jaboulet Aîné, made from 100% Syrah. The 2015 was the first vintage under this name, which replaced La Petite Chapelle.
The grapes come from biodynamically farmed parcels including Les Bessards, les Greffieux, le Méal and les Rocoules. The vines are 40 to 60 years old and yields are held to 15 to 20 hl/ha. It spends 15 to 18 months in barrel, with 20% new oak, which gives a milder style that develops more quickly.
The nose is a little closed at first, then opens with air to ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry, with smoky, spicy notes. The palate is concentrated and aromatic, with ripe fruit, and the finish carries good tannin and lingers.
