Pikesville Straight Rye is a rye whiskey whose brand name goes back to 1895 in Maryland, where the L. Winand & Brothers Distillery closed with Prohibition. Heaven Hill, a Kentucky distillery, now produces it.
The mash bill is 51% rye, 39% corn and 10% malted barley, and the whiskey is aged for about six years in new American white oak casks.
The nose is deep, with cocoa, liquorice, cherries and vanilla, followed by caramel, spicy rye and red apple. The palate is fruity and peppery, with cherry, peppery rye, liquorice, vanilla and coconut.
