Pikesville Straight Rye is a six-year-old Kentucky rye from Heaven Hill, bottled at 55% in a 75cl bottle. It was matured for a minimum of six years in new charred oak barrels. The brand has roots in Maryland rye tradition.
The mashbill is 51% rye, 39% corn and 10% malted barley, distilled at Heaven Hill's Bernheim facility. Barrels are drawn from higher up in the rickhouse, where larger temperature swings deepen the contact between spirit and wood.
The nose brings dark cocoa and burnt oak, with clove, black pepper and a hint of cherry. On the palate come honey, clover and white chocolate, then rye spice, red fruits and toasted oak. The finish is long and warm, closing dry and peppery.
