A 4 year old Indiana straight bourbon from Pinhook, bottled at 98 proof (49% ABV) in 2019 in a 75cl bottle. It is the first release in a nine-year vertical series that is due to end with a 12 year old in 2027. Each year's small batch comes from the same set of barrels distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and 150 barrels went into this first one.
Each Pinhook bottling features an individual thoroughbred, and this one is Bourbon War, foaled on 23 February 2016.
The nose is smoky, with toasted marshmallow, barrel char and baked banana. The palate brings cereal grain, vanilla, summer fruits and bubble gum, and the finish carries vanilla, oak and white peppercorn.
Tasting Notes
