Pinhook Flagship Bourbon Orange Wax is a vintage-dated Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) in a 75cl bottle sealed with orange wax. It is distilled at Castle & Key in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Each annual release is treated as its own vintage rather than blended to a fixed profile, an idea borrowed from winemaking. The mashbill is 75% corn, 15% rye and 10% malted barley.
Butterscotch, dried apricot and orange blossom open the nose, with banana bread and roasted coffee. The palate brings tropical fruit, honey, toasted coconut and crème brûlée, and the finish is medium to long and warming, with clove, hazelnut and a peppery bite.
