Pittyvaich – 1992 30 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice, The Recollection Series (70cl, 48.9%)

This is a 30 year old Speyside single malt from the closed Pittyvaich distillery, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in its Connoisseurs Choice range as part of The Recollection Series #2. It was distilled on 19 May 1992 and matured in refill bourbon barrel 4025. It was bottled on 13 February 2023 at a natural cask strength of 48.9%, and the barrel gave 88 bottles. It is not chill-filtered, has no added colouring and comes in a wooden box. The nose combines fragrant pear, dried ginger and orchard blossom, followed by Seville orange, apple and white chocolate. On the palate, grapefruit and lime zest lead to a chilli heat, then honeydew melon and apricot move towards a touch of marzipan. The full, lasting finish ends on cocoa powder.
