This is a 30 year old Pittyvaich from the 2020 Special Release, distilled in 1989 at the Dufftown distillery in Speyside, which has since closed. It is bottled at a cask strength of 50.8%, and 7,056 bottles were filled worldwide.
The whisky was matured in refill casks and then finished in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, which add a rich vanilla sweetness to the creamy, fruity character of the distillery.
The nose offers ripe tropical fruit, including pear, papaya, pineapple and banana, over a green base of perfumed oils. The palate is oily and soft, with creamy vanilla and a little fruit acidity. The finish is fairly short, sweet and soft, with a lasting spicy warmth.
