This is a single-cask Jamaican rum from Planteray, distilled in 1984 at Clarendon Distillery and bottled at cask strength in 2024 at 40 years old. It is the oldest rum the house has released. It was made from molasses in a Vendome double retort pot still and carries the MMW mark.
It spent 35 years in ex-bourbon casks in Jamaica, then five more in ex-Ferrand Cognac casks in France. Only 317 numbered bottles were filled, each hand-signed by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel and presented in a wooden box with a certificate.
The nose is smoky and meaty with vanilla, cooked banana, bitter orange peel and ripe pineapple. The palate is dry, floral and fruity, with rose water, soursop, apricot, coconut milk and allspice. The finish brings candied nuts, toasted coconut and balsam.
