A cask strength Islay single malt bottled at 55% in a 750ml bottle, released under the Port Askaig name by Elixir Distillers. It is vatted from small batches of between two and forty ex-bourbon American oak casks, and bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. It won a Gold Medal at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Peat smoke arrives first on the nose, with green apple and a charred, roasting-meat note. The palate is smoky and bold, with clove, cinnamon, cocoa, liquorice root and brine, balanced by orchard fruit sweetness. The finish is long, with spice and salt.
