Port Askaig 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the Port Askaig range created by Elixir Distillers, bottled at 45.8% in a 750ml bottle. It is non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
Most of the whisky is matured in refill American oak casks, with a measured share of Pedro Ximénez sherry casks in each batch of about fifty barrels. The distillery behind it is not officially named.
The nose brings grassy peat smoke, cereal and sea salt, with honeysuckle and vanilla behind. On the palate it is creamy, with honey, vanilla, earthy peat, liquorice, charred oak and citrus. The finish is long and smoky, with a dry grassy note and a faint echo of PX sweetness.
