Port Askaig 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt and the core expression of the Port Askaig range, made in a sweet, smoky style. The spirit comes from just north of the village of Port Askaig and is aged in refill American oak casks, which let the character of the spirit come through.
The nose is fresh, with lemon oil and sea spray over gentle smoke of wood embers and coal. The palate has rich citrus, salt-baked mackerel, peat and honeysuckle sweetness, with a herbal background. The finish is barley sugar, clean as the smoke fades.
